Install the extension and name components on your own pages

Works in the latest two major versions of Chrome and Edge (Manifest V3). It isn't in the extension stores yet, so you download a zip and load it yourself.

Heads-up: the extension's own interface is in Chinese for now. An English version is on the way.

01Install

Five steps to install

After downloading the zip, load it by hand from your browser's extensions page.

  1. Step 1: Unzip it to a permanent folder

    Unzip the download into a folder you'll keep. Don't delete or move that folder later, or the extension will stop working.

  2. Step 2: Open the extensions page

    Go to chrome://extensions in the address bar (edge://extensions in Edge).

  3. Step 3: Turn on Developer mode

    Switch on “Developer mode” in the top right (bottom left in Edge).

  4. Step 4: Load the unpacked extension

    Click “Load unpacked” and pick the folder you just unzipped.

  5. Step 5: Pin it and log in

    Pin the extension to your toolbar, open it, and log in to your Frontend Glossary account. If you're already logged in on the website, the popup picks that up automatically.

To update, download the new zip, replace the old folder's contents, then click the reload button on the extension's card on the extensions page.

Shortcuts and privacy

Hover inspection happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded unless you click.

Shortcut
Alt Shift T toggles inspect mode, Esc exits. It may clash with other extensions; the popup shows the shortcut that's actually active.
Pin a card
In inspect mode, clicking an element pins its card instead of triggering the page's own click.
Runs on
Only localhost, 127.0.0.1, and *.local by default, which means the pages you're building on your machine. Turn it on for other sites, like staging or preview deployments, in the extension.
Uploads
Local hover inspection uploads nothing. A screenshot and the page structure are uploaded only when you click “AI identify” or “Analyze this page”.
Full page
Click “Analyze this page” in the popup. Results show up in the side panel, and you can open the full report on the website.
